Best Educators for the Best Classes

At The Odyssey, we provide the best educators for the best classes. Our team of early educators is specially selected from a prestigious body of dedicated and highly qualified professionals. The Center Director leads a team of Curriculum Specialists in planning and implementing a creative, innovative and academically - stimulating early childhood program for the children.

All Odyssey teachers have at least a teaching diploma in ECE and are trained in first aid. At the same time, each class is featured with a Curriculum Specialist who holds a degree in ECE. Classes are structured and sized with a very small teacher-child ratio, to promote optimal educational experiences and interactions. Many of our educators had experience of working in early childhood settings in Singapore and overseas, some with international schools before joining the Odyssey.

Educators at The Odyssey are responsible for planning, implementing the curriculum for a group of children, and for monitoring progress through assessments and evaluations. In addition, they are also responsible for organizing and ensuring that children work in a safe, caring and positive environment which can offer tremendous opportunities for them. They are committed to see that all children receive every chance to learn and enjoy their school day.

Jeannette Ling, Curriculum Specialist.

I hold a Graduate Diploma in ECCE and am presently pursuing my Masters in Early Childhood Education with Wheelock College. In all, I have about 7 years of working experience in the field of ECE.

I strongly believe that every child is special and talented in his or her own way. As an early childhood educator, I can help children achieve their best potential by working in partnership with parents. As mentioned by Rachel Carson, 'If a child is to keep his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.’ I personally advocate the important role that adults play in nurturing and cultivating the minds of our children especially during the early childhood period. There are many different approaches employed in nurturing and educating young children. I would like to be able to inspire other educators to use best approaches and practices with young children

I enjoy the work and cherish the opportunity to work in the Odyssey, which is like a dream come true. The conducive Odyssey environment is built to inspire and challenge both the children and the educators like myself. I believe that this is the place where I can grow and develop professionally.

Muhammad Fadly Asis, Art Specialist.

I graduated from LaSalle SIA College of the Arts in 1999 with a Diploma in Visual Arts, majoring in sculpture. Art has been my interest since I was a young boy. Apart from art, I am also passionate about photography and design. I first stumbled upon preschool teaching as a career 3 years ago after taking a break from teaching art in mainstream schools. Not knowing that the Early Childhood Education field is a female dominated industry, I applied and enrolled myself in Learning Vision’s Apprenticeship Program. Soon, I became a full-fledged preschool teacher.  At that point of time, the idea of The Odyssey was mooted and soon it was in the works. I was inducted into the program as an Art Specialist.

Working at The Odyssey as an Art Specialist has made my passion for teaching art burn even stronger. I can clearly witness for myself the joy the children exude while creating art, their earnest desire in exploring materials and space, and their ability to verbalize their ideas to their peers and teachers! At the same time, I document these precious moments with my camera! Working at The Odyssey gave me the greatest satisfaction I have ever gotten in my entire teaching career. I enjoy every single day of my work in The Odyssey.

Patrick Terence Lim, Curriculum Specialist.

I am by profession, a qualified Speech and Drama trainer, certified by Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Trinity College and London College of Music.  But in pursuing a career in ECE, I have taken the plunge in embarking on 4 years of intensive ECE training where I have obtained the Diplomas in Early Childhood Education, Teaching and Leadership and a Bachelor degree in ECE with Honours from the University of Wales, UK.  The past 5 years as an educator have been an enriching and fulfilling to me. Through these 10 years, I have had the privilege of working with children and other educators who had played very critical roles in inspiring my love and passion for the profession.  When I was offered the opportunity to come into the Odyssey in January 2008, it was the beginning of another enriching and adventurous learning journey.  I am continuously amazed at the capacity of the young children in their display of intellectual capability in expressing themselves and in coming up with innovative views and creative ideas.

I am particularly interested in the development of children as all-rounded, confident, communicative and responsible global citizens of the world.  One of my passions in the development of children is in the area of language and performing arts. I aim to help unlock the confident and articulate performer in each individual child.

‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ was a question being posed to me often when I was in my secondary school years but being an Early Childhood Educator wasn’t the usual answer that I would give. My initial contact with early childhood education was in my polytechnic years where I have obtained my Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, followed by 5 years overseas to achieve my Bachelor in ECE and Masters in Education with the University of South Australia.

During these years, I come to realize that early childhood education is not just education. It was more of contribution to lives, important people’s lives – young children’s lifelong learning. This is more than just an achievement or reaching a target or goal in my own life, it’s more of making a contribution to others that is so extraordinary but sadly, not given sufficient attention. People see the activities we plan and the content we deliver as we teach and communicate with the children as ‘the jobs of the teachers’ but in actual fact, these jobs are responsibilities that I have chosen to take on, not just a personal achievement in our own lives but also, making an impact that affects someone else’s life. Today, I won’t be facing the question of ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ but I am proudly introducing myself as an Early Childhood Educator.

Throughout my 5 years of working with young children, I have always held on to the belief that every child should be respected as an individual and each child has that innate ability and potential to develop optimally.

In pursuing a career in this field, I believe that training is important in giving me the knowledge needed to understand child development and appreciate how children develop and learn. Presently, I have Diplomas in Early Childhood Education, Teaching and Leadership and a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. My diverse education and work experiences ranging from engineering, publishing, business administration and law provide me with the additional work experiences and skills that enrich and bring diversity of thought into my classroom teaching.  I view my key role as an early childhood educator as one that inspires each child’s potential while assisting him or her in developing positive feelings and dispositions towards learning. I firmly believe that I can achieve this by working in partnership with parents. I believe that when parents and teachers work together, they would be able to cultivate an environment at home and at school that is consistent in their values. This will enable the child to grow to love the school as a home away from home and enjoy their learning journey.

I always have a passion to teach and work with children. The opportunity came when I took on a part-time teaching position as an early educator. I learned that early childhood is a very exciting and challenging career, and since then had embarked on this fulfilling journey in early childhood education.

My passionate interest and enthusiasm in this area of work had motivated me to pursue a long-term education and studies in the field of early childhood education. After 5 years in the field, I have attained a Diploma and Degree with Honours in Early Childhood Education with the University of Wales, UK, as well as a  Diploma in Psychology and a Certificate in Special Education. My quest for knowledge does not stop here and I hope to continue on this life long learning journey through my work with the children at the Odyssey.

My greatest passion is in integrating special needs children into mainstream curriculum. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction and fulfillment to be able to support these children to develop to their fullest potential.  I would also very much like to work with parents as I firmly believed that positive collaborations between the home and school is critical in optimizing the children’s learning and growth.

Monica Wee, Curriculum Specialist

The decision to be a preschool teacher stemmed from my own less than positive kindergarten experience. I believed positive early years’ experiences are nurtured through an engaging early childhood education that is responsive to young children’s needs and interests, and encourage their natural curiosity

I have been teaching for about 14 years now, with 7 years in the preschool setting and 7 years of specialization in Speech and Drama. Working with young children and their parents have always been the source of my yearning to be better equipped. I presently hold a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Early Childhood Education with the University of Wales, UK. The training has provided me with not only the knowledge but also gave me a deeper insight into how young children grow and learn. As a constant reminder to myself, I live by the principle of a S.M.I.L.E : Smile, Motivate, Inspire, Love and Evaluate.
