Colors of Odyssey, ART from the Heart
An Amalgamation of Creativity and Confidence
‘Colors of Odyssey’ is a culmination of the children’s Art Odyssey Project. The three weeks’ art project was planned to encourage children’s self-expressions, aesthetic enjoyment and active manipulation with colors and forms and explorations with the languages of materials, tools and techniques. The educators in the Odyssey believe that children’s creative thinking can be nurtured through rich opportunities for individualized and personalized artistic experiences. The curiosity and sense of wonder with which the children approach art portrays the true creative spirit that is required for the production of innovative art and confident independent thinking. This art exhibition not onlyserved as a platform for appreciating the efforts and creative potential of the children but also marks the Odyssey’s firstcommunity advocacy project. The objective of this project was to support community partnership by encouraging the spirit of giving in our children as they play a part in enriching the lives of the underprivileged children. The proceed that were generated from the sales of the children’s masterpieces will be given to the Singapore Children’s Society.
The art exhibition, ‘Colors of Odyssey, ART from the Heart’ showcased the children’s masterpieces at both centres – Wilkinson and Alexandra, and finally at The Arts House. The educators of the Odyssey meticulously documented and presented the rich, revolutionary experiences of the Odyssey children that accentuate their unique, creative ideas. The curation and selection of children’s exhibits displayed, showcased a clear shift from traditional work to the acceptance and exploration of new mediums such as installation and new media arts by the Great Masters and local artists. Clearly, all the children’s exhibits are giving one common message to all, and that isthe distinct presentation of the image of the Odyssey child as creative and artistic, competent in using the language of media and materials in expressing their understanding of art.
