ART @ Botanic Gardens

As advocates of a creative and innovative curriculum, we are constantly looking for opportunities that expose children to creative experiences they can explore. The Odyssey promotes an art culture that actively celebrates the child as a unique individual who is capable of rich, independent and creative ideas. We strongly believe that a holistically designed curriculum does not limit learning experiences within the confines of a classroom or even the preschool campus.

Our recent visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens provided the children with an art experience in the midst of nature with plants, trees, a lily pond and an open sky among other things, for inspiration. Exploratory learning was extended to the outdoor environment underpinned by a relational pedagogy. At the Odyssey, the children are constantly encouraged to make connections and build relationships with the elements of the natural environment around them. The participants were active explorers of techniques in drawing, sketching, painting and printing to name a few.

Besides exploring alternative ways of communicating ideas, this art experience encouraged ideas that were personal, inventive and invaluable. This art adventure was the embodiment of the Odyssey art culture as it was organised around opportunities for creativity, aesthetic enjoyment and self-expression.
